The purpose of this survey report is to better understand how various business enterprises address the management of product safety and, hopefully, to help all companies improve their programs. The survey examined four key areas: Leadership, planning, policies and procedures for product safety, and measurement. Reflecting on the data provided by the participating business respondents, the following points are reasonably substantiated: centralized leadership is an important attribute for consideration; safety planning is emerging as an important component in strategic planning; formal policies and procedures play an important role in the follow-through of plans; and measurement tools, while considered important, have not yet reached a mature level.
