A Note from the Author
Dear Amazon Readers: I started writing these books when my daughter was five. There are many lessons that a parent tries to teach her child—look both ways before crossing the street, don’t eat a big bag of potato chips ten minutes before dinner, wash behind your ears, etc. And then there are other types of lessons, things like stand up for yourself, don’t worry what everyone else thinks, be optimistic, etc. These kinds of lessons are more difficult to learn. With all these thoughts in my head, I started writing the Just Grace books. My hope was that one day my daughter would read these books and decide that she liked Grace, and that an independent, confident, creative girl was a good thing to be. My daughter did not read my first or my second or even my third Just Grace book. She saw copies of these books all over the house, but for some reason they did not interest her. I never asked her to read them, and I did not read them to her. I suppose to her, they were just part of Mommy’s job. One night while I was in bed, I heard some noise coming from her room. I got up to investigate. As soon as I walked into her room, I knew what she was up to. It was one a.m., and there she was with a book and a flashlight reading under the covers. I was about to get mad, and then I saw the book. It was the second Just Grace book! She had already read the first one. I don’t think I could have even imagined a better way to find her reading my books. It was such a compliment. So for reading under the covers at night, I say, “Thank you, Ivy!” And just so you know, Ivy really likes them. I hope you do too! Happy reading (even with a flashlight), –Charise Harper
