Any time you had dinner at my mother's house. You could expect to be served dessert. Usually there was more than one choice of a desert with both pie and cake on the menu. I may be prejudiced, but I think my mother, known by all the grandkids as Mamaw, made the best cakes anywhere.

Her pies did not have to take a backseat to anything, even her cakes. Everything my mother baked was delicious. The recipes in this cookbook were pulled from her stack of recipe books and handwritten notes for entry into this cookbook. Each recipe I read, brought back many fond memories of hanging around mother's kitchen wasiting for the opportunity to lick the batter spoon.
