In this case study, Steve Shi demonstrates how to develop a set of XML web services to expose the contents and functionalities of a discussion forum website, as well how to develop a rich client application that consumes these web services. You'll learn how to enable the rich client application to provide such functionalities as browsing forum contents, posting and replying to topics, and caching forum contents retrieved from an internal local database. The forum reader is implemented as a full–fledged Windows Forms application under the .NET platform, with its underlying component architecture based on object–oriented analysis and design principles. It sports an intuitive GUI that loosely resembles Microsoft Outlook.
