Development of a .NET Image Gallery Application by Chris Sully

The programming output of this article is an ASP.NET user control, written in VB.NET, that presents images on a web page using a SQL Server database and a DataList databound server control. Thumbnail images are auto-generated on the server from the original images via the user control. The database schema is deliberately defined to be flexible enough to permit multiple galleries, each with multiple categories of images for presentation. Also included is basic administrative functionality to upload images to the system, which you may extend to your own requirements. All data is accessed via stored procedures to the SQL Server backend. This is the first part of a series of articles by Chris Sully examining issues surrounding the development of this image gallery application.
